Our Process
Our web site production work encompasses site design, construction, and marketing strategies. This is a dynamic process, involving the client’s participation, and we’ve found it helpful to outline our approach.
1. Analysis
At the outset of each project, we work with our clients to develop basic goals for the performance of the new site. We begin by looking at the existing site, if any, and its role in the organization. We analyze the traffic patterns and the behavior of its users. Scrutinizing the current site tells us which elements are performing well, indicates where we can improve, and also gives us a foundation from which to measure future growth. With an understanding of the site’s users and the client’s goals, we develop the basic architecture of the site and a marketing strategy for promoting its content.
2. Design
We use a three-step process that ensures a thoughtful, custom design, while keeping the project on schedule. We begin with an initial design meeting, where we discuss audience, site layout, and aesthetic preferences and requirements.
- We then present one optimized site template mock-up, with various options.
- We present a revised second draft design based on feedback.
- We take the final edits and craft a final site design.
3. Development
We build all of our web sites with flexible Content Management Systems (CMS) which allow site owners to control and edit their own content. CMS web sites have a public front-end which users see, and a private back-end administration system where the site owner manages the content. Using the site architecture developed at the outset of the project, we build the back-end of the web site while the design process is underway. This includes setting up the CMS system, e-commerce, and any other functions the web site will perform. Once the front-end design is finalized, we integrate the back- end administration tools with the front-end aesthetics and functions.
4. Training & Launch
With both the front-end and back-end in place, the process of loading the client’s content (text, photos, video, etc.) into the site structure begins. At this point we train site administrators to use the site’s updating functions for site content and inventory items. With the content in place, the administrators trained, and the site thoroughly tested, we launch the site to the public.
Timeline
We budget four to eight weeks for most production projects—from the signing of the agreement to the launch of the web site.
CompleteCare
We offer several options for long term support of the web system. For more details, check out the CompleteCare section.
